AWS offers 12 certifications which are distributed between core topics and specialized topics. It certifies its students at four main levels: basic, skilled, expert and specialized (known as Foundational, Associate, Professional and Specialty).

 AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner

This is a basic certification that introduces you to the principles of the Amazon Web Services cloud platform. You will become acquainted with the fundamentals of essential AWS features and services, including business use cases.

The exam also covers AWS security and compliance fundamentals, requiring you to demonstrate your practical knowledge of AWS billing, support, and pricing.

The exam asks questions about deploying resources and services in the AWS cloud.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate

This certificate verifies that you know how to build and deploy systems in the AWS cloud.

The exam will ask questions about cloud-based solutions for deployments that follow strict requirements. You will have to demonstrate your knowledge of the best architectural practices, as defined by AWS.

Candidates must have experience in deploying, configuring, and managing compute, network, storage, and database services on AWS. It is also recommended that only those with a working knowledge of AWS security and compliance policies apply to this exam.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional

This exam is the ideal way to demonstrate your ability to build and deploy distributed systems to specification in the AWS cloud.

In addition, you can demonstrate your understanding of their implementation at scale, bearing in mind fault tolerance and high availability.

You need to know how to deploy multi-tier applications in the AWS cloud and build enterprise-scale cloud solutions with AWS resources, all while managing your spending in the cloud, of course.

The exam is multiple choice and multiple answer.

AWS Certified Developer – Associate

This exam is in the multiple-choice format and it tests your ability to develop native AWS cloud applications.

You must demonstrate a skilled use of the AWS software development kit (SDK) to interact with and optimize AWS services that you have created. Successful completion of the exam requires a working knowledge of code-level security practices, including credential creation and encryption strategies.

AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional

This exam is aimed at people who currently work as DevOps engineers and who have two or more years of experience in AWS environments. It will test your ability to manage distributed applications in the AWS cloud, from provisioning to full operational management.

Some questions will be about Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) methodologies and automation best practices, including best practices for automating security and compliance checks.

Other questions are intended to test your working knowledge of tracking and logging practices, as they pertain to the AWS platform. You can prepare for your certification with our practice test.

AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate

This is a certification created for systems administrators who work in systems operations roles and who have a minimum of one year of deployment, management, and operations experience on AWS.

The exam costs $150 and it certifies your ability to deploy, manage, and operate system resources in the AWS cloud.

Candidates must know about everything that is required to manage cloud systems, as regards fault tolerance and high availability. They must also be able to match resource deployment with requirements, in addition to operational needs, such as security and cost control.

AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty

This certification is aimed at professionals who are used to carrying out complex Big Data analysis and who have two or more years of experience in AWS technologies.

Successful completion of the exam demonstrates that you know how to use various AWS services to get the most out of your data analytics, including your knowledge of how to automate key data analytics tasks.

AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty

This certification is intended for individuals who regularly undertake complex network projects, especially those involving scalable AWS systems. The main requirement is that you know how to manage the network architecture of any service on the AWS platform and you must also know how to automate most network tasks.

Additionally, AWS recommends that candidates have five years of network management experience and a solid understanding of networking concepts and best practices related to the AWS platform.

AWS Certified Security – Specialty

If you work in an IT security role and have a minimum of two years' experience protecting AWS workloads, this is the certification for you.

Passing the exam demonstrates your knowledge of advanced methods for securing the AWS cloud platform.

To apply, you must be an IT security expert with verifiable, expert-level experience in encryption and data protection techniques for AWS environments and you must be proficient in the AWS tools used to implement and manage security in the cloud.

AWS Machine Learning – Specialty

This certification tests the design and implementation of machine learning solutions that resolve practical business problems.

During the exam, you will be presented with situations in which you will have to choose the best machine learning solution for a problem and justify why it is the best approach compared to others.

The exam requires you to understand the most relevant AWS services that would provide the machine learning solution and you also need to know how to optimize your AWS services to provide scalable, reliable, and secure solutions.

AWS Database – Specialty

This certification validates expertise in recommending, designing, and maintaining optimal AWS database solutions.

This certification validates expertise in designing, implementing, migrating, and operating SAP workloads on AWS.
