aws certification examsaws certification exams

AWS offers 12 certifications which are distributed between core topics and specialized topics. It certifies its students at four main levels: basic, skilled, expert and specialized (known as Foundational, Associate, Professional and Specialty).

Currently, the only Foundational certification offered by AWS is the Certified Cloud Practitioner. AWS organizes training and certifications by role – Solutions Architect, Cloud Practitioner, Developer, DevOps Engineer, Machine Learning, and Operations – and by technological solutions – Advanced Networking, Data Analytics, Databases, AWS for Games, Machine Learning, Media Services, Security, Serverless, and Storage.

What prerequisites are there?

There are no prerequisites for taking AWS Certification exams, but for Associate-level exams and above a minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience, or 5 years in the case of the Specialty exams, is recommended. For AWS, each exam passed corresponds to a certification earned.

Will I need to recertify?

AWS ensures you keep your knowledge up to date and aligned with the latest developments in the relevant technology by requiring recertification after three years. For Foundational and Associate-level certifications, you can either retake the exam you originally passed to re-certify or certify in an exam at the next level (Associate or Professional, respectively). For Professional and Specialty-level certifications, you can re-take the current version of the exam you originally passed.
