| Objective: | Optimize system performance in various areas. |
| Time Estimate: | 10—15 minutes |
| 1. | The Memtest.log file created in Exercise 6.2 can be used here as a Baseline log before changes are made to the system. If the Memtest.log file is not available, create one. |
| 2. | Boot the computer in the Test Configuration. No changes have been made yet to this profile. |
| 3. | From the Control Panel, select the Services icon. |
| 4. | Click on the Spooler service. |
| 5. | Click on the HW Profile button and disable only the Test Configuration. Disabling the Spooler removes printing capabilities. |
| 6. | Click on the Server service and disable it for the Test Configuration. Administrators cannot remotely administer your system and you will not be able to share folders. |
| 7. | Click on any other service you think is not required and disable it as well for the Test Configuration. |
| 8. | Restart the computer using the same Test Configuration. |
| 9. | Create a new memory log called MemTestAfter.log and perform the same operations as for MemTest.log for about the same amount of time. |
| 10. | Compare the values in the MemTest.log (no system improvements) with MemTestAfter.log (with the system improvements). If the values are not significantly better, it may not have been worth making the improvements. |
