Sharing a Folder Remotely

To share a folder remotely, meaning that you would like to attach to a remote server or workstation and share its resources out to the network, you must use Server Manager, which comes with the Client-Based Network Tools for Windows NT Workstation. Server Manager is a tool that you can use to create remote shared directories (see Figure 3.9).

To remotely create a shared folder using Server Manager, follow these steps:
1.Highlight the computer on which you would like to create the shared folder.
2.On the Computer menu, choose Shared Directories.
3.From the Shared Directories dialog box, click on the New Share button.
4.Enter the share name that you want to use for this new share.
5.Enter the path to the share. This is the path as it would be specified according to the remote machine. If you wanted to share the directory C:\Info, for example, that is what you would type. Because there is no Browse button available, you must know the path that you would like to share.
6.Optionally, enter a comment to describe the shared resource.
7.Optionally, set a user limit for the shared resource. If the resource is on a Windows NT Workstation, remember that the maximum number of inbound connections is 10. If the resource is on a Windows NT Server, the number of inbound connections is unlimited.
8.Click on the Permissions button to set the permissions for the shared resource.
9.Click on OK to create the shared resource.
