Exercise 2.5: Removing NTFS Partitions

This exercise gives instructions on how to remove Windows NT from a computer where there are NTFS partitions that are logical drives in extended partitions. Logical NTFS partitions cannot be removed using FDISK.
Objective:Remove Windows NT Workstation
Time Estimate:30 minutes
1.Insert the Windows NT Workstation Setup Boot Disk into your floppy drive and restart your computer. (If you don’t have the three Setup Boot Disks, you can create them with the command WINNT /OX.)
2.When prompted, insert Windows NT Workstation Setup Disk #2.
3.At the Windows NT Workstation Setup Welcome to Setup screen, press Enter to start the installation process.
4.Press Enter to detect mass storage devices.
5.When prompted, insert Windows NT Workstation Setup Disk #3.
6.Press Enter to approve the list of detected mass storage devices. (Don’t worry if your IDE hard disk controller isn’t detected, the installation process should proceed just fine anyway.)
7.Press Page Down, repeatedly, until you reach the last page of the Windows NT Licensing Agreement.
8.Press F8 to approve the Windows NT Licensing Agreement.
9.Press Enter to approve the list of detected hardware components.
10.Select the desired installation partition and then press Enter.
11.Specify that you want to convert the desired partition from NTFS to FAT.
12.After the conversion to FAT completes, press F3 to exit from the setup program.
13.Restart your computer with a MS-DOS system disk that contains the Sys.com program.
  1. From a command prompt, type SYS C:, which transfers a MS-DOS boot sector to the hard disk.
