Adding and Removing Programs
You can modify the installation option (Typical, Portable, Compact, or Custom) that you chose when you installed Windows NT Workstation 4.0 by choosing the Add/Remove Programs program in Control panel and then selecting the Windows NT Setup tab (see Figure 2.14).
The Windows NT Setup tab enables you to add and delete optional components and applications in the following categories:
- Accessibility options
- Accessories
- Communications
- Games
- Multimedia
- Windows messaging
Note that the check boxes as depicted actually can have the following three states:
- Clear boxes. Indicate that none of the selected components or applications in that category is installed.
- Clear and checked boxes. Indicate that all the selected components or applications in that category are installed.
- Gray and checked boxes. Indicate that some of the selected components or applications in that category are installed. For details on which of the components or applications are actually installed, click on the Details button.
You can also add and remove applications from your system by choosing the Add/Remove Programs program in Control panel and then selecting the Install/Uninstall tab. You could attempt to delete a program by deleting the appropriate program folder, but you will fail to remove any files that program needs that are in different folders, as well as any Registry entries that had been made by that program.
